Reported issues

Vessel condition and safety

Charterers report engine failures, non-functioning bilge pumps, defective navigation lights and incomplete or expired safety equipment. In several reports the vessel was handed over in this condition and the defects were confirmed at the base without being repaired.

Disputed damage charges

Deductions were made for components which, according to the reports, had failed through wear rather than through use by the charterer, including a gearbox and running rigging.

Undisclosed fees

Reports describe compulsory payments raised at check-in — final cleaning, outboard engine, transit log surcharges — which were not shown in the booking confirmation.

Anonymised report excerpts

Excerpts are shortened and anonymised. They reproduce what consumers reported and are not statements of established fact.

  • The engine cut out twice on the first day. The base told us to continue and that a technician would come; nobody came for the whole week.
  • Two lifejackets were past their service date and the liferaft certificate had expired the previous year.
  • At check-in we were asked for a further 320 euro in cash for items that were supposed to be included.

If you are affected

  • Set a written deadline for repayment or correction, and keep a copy of everything you send.
  • Where you paid by credit card, ask your bank about a chargeback within the applicable time limit.
  • Contact the consumer protection authority in the country of the charter, and your national European Consumer Centre.
  • Submit your report to this register so that the pattern remains documented.
