Reported issues

Security deposit withheld

Reports describe deposits of between 1,500 and 3,000 euro retained in full or in part after the vessel was returned. In several cases the amount was announced verbally at the base and no written breakdown followed, despite requests by email.

Disputed damage charges

Charges for hull scratches, damaged fenders and worn sails were raised at the end of the charter. Charterers state that the corresponding items were either already noted as pre-existing or absent from the handover protocol entirely.

Contract and terms

Several reports concern clauses invoked only after the charter — a handling fee for damage assessment and an obligation to accept the base's own repair estimate — which the charterers say were not part of the contract they signed.

Anonymised report excerpts

Excerpts are shortened and anonymised. They reproduce what consumers reported and are not statements of established fact.

  • We returned the yacht with the base skipper on board and no damage was noted. Three weeks later 1,850 euro of our deposit had not been refunded and we still have no itemised list.
  • The scratch on the starboard side was in our photos from the day of handover. It was still charged to us.
  • Every email was answered with the same sentence: the matter is with the technical department. After four months there was no further reply.

If you are affected

  • Set a written deadline for repayment or correction, and keep a copy of everything you send.
  • Where you paid by credit card, ask your bank about a chargeback within the applicable time limit.
  • Contact the consumer protection authority in the country of the charter, and your national European Consumer Centre.
  • Submit your report to this register so that the pattern remains documented.
